Scott Brown is currently the Assistant Band Director at Dickerson M.S. and Percussion Director at Walton H.S. Scott is Co-Director of the North Georgia Percussion Camp and Atlanta Percussion Symposium and Percussion Coordinator for the Music for All Summer Symposium Concert Band Division. Scott is a member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Education Committee having previously served on the Percussion Ensemble Committee. He has been fortunate to work with many fine ensembles including the Lassiter and Kennesaw Mountain H.S. bands, and Beatrix, Spirit of Atlanta, and Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps. Between fourteen years with Lassiter and thirteen with Walton, Scott has been a part of 2 BOA National Championships, 11 BOA Regional Championships, 2 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades, 2 Tournament of Roses Parades, the Waikiki Holiday Parade, and The National Cherry Blossom Parade as well as performances for the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference (6x), The Midwest Clinic (3x), and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. While serving as Percussion Arranger and Consultant for Beatrix, the ensemble won the “High Percussion” awards for Drum Corps Netherlands and Drum Corps Europe. The Dickerson M.S. percussion ensemble has performed and presented clinic/performances for the GMEA Conference (3x), The Midwest Clinic (3x), PASIC (3x), the Music For All National Percussion Festival (3x) and was named a National Winner in the 2023 Mark of Excellence/National Percussion Ensemble Honors Project.
Mr. Brown is co-author of “Field Level – The Ultimate Band Director’s Guide to fielding the Ultimate Marching Percussion Section” and composer of “Kumi-daiko”, both published by Row-Loff Productions. His articles on percussion pedagogy have been published in Percussive Notes, Halftime, and School Band & Orchestra magazines. He is featured on the “Snare Drummer’s Toolbox” dvd and has been featured in interviews for TV and Radio in The Netherlands, Colombia, and Malaysia. Active as a clinician, Scott has presented clinics for The Midwest Clinic, PASIC, MEA conventions in Georgia, Texas, and Ontario, and served as a clinician and/or adjudicator in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Thailand, Brazil, Colombia, and Malaysia. He has also appeared on the campuses of the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, University of Tennessee, Point University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Western Carolina University as a Guest Lecturer.
Mr. Brown received a citation for “Significant Contributions to Bands in the State of Georgia” from the Georgia Music Educators Association, the “Citation of Excellence” from the National Band Association (3x), the “Citation of Excellence” from the Percussive Arts Society (3x), and was a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award. Mr. Brown is a graduate of Western Carolina University, alumnus of Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps, and an educational artist for Innovative Percussion, Mapex Drums, Majestic Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, and Row-Loff Productions.
