Cao Jiangshan

Cao Jiangshan, lecturer of the Marching Art Education Department of the Music Education College at Shenyang Conservatory of Music, is an expert in Marching Art Arrangement, Marching Art Program Directing, and an international-level judge in Marching Art. He is a main lecturer of the "National Marching Band Training Course" of the Wind Music Association of China Musicians Association, Chairman of the Asian Marching Arts Association (AMBC), Executive Director of Drum Corps Asia (DCA), Director of the board of The Blue Devils (BD), teaching director of the Jinbao Blue Devils Educational Project, signed artist of Jinbao Musical Instrument Co., LTD, and a senior consultant.

In 2005, he was admitted to the Symphony Orchestra of the Art College of Shenyang Conservatory of Music and joined the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Art College in the same year where he held the position of Principal Clarinetist. In 2006, he became the band leader of the Youth Symphony Orchestra and successfully established the first Clarinet Ensemble in the College of Arts. During his university years, he participated in more than 70 college performances and successfully held a personal solo concert in 2009, highly recognized by the academic circles.

Since 2008, Cao has been engaged in theoretical research and teaching practice of modern marching art performance and direction, successively guiding more than 70 marching bands nationwide and winning numerous gold and silver awards at international events. He served as the Deputy Director of the Marching Art Concert at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival in 2012, the Director and Jury Chairman of the Drum Corps Asia in 2019, and has been the Director of the Marching Art Performance at the Tianjin · Jinbao International Music Festival for several consecutive years.

His representative works of marching art arrangement, Caribbean Pirate Suite and Engine, which he recomposed, received widespread acclaim in the Marching Art Exhibition at the "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival in 2013 and 2015. In 2015, he led the Marching Art Drum Line of Shenyang Conservatory of Music to participate in the Thailand International Music Championship (TWMC) Marching Percussion Competition, achieving an impressive fourth place. This marked the first time a Chinese drum line had participated in the International A-Class Marching Art Championship and remains the highest achievement to date in such competitions by a drum line. He was invited to serve as a judge in the TWMC Marching Art Championship from 2015 to 2019.

In 2015 and 2016, he was invited to visit the United States to meet with the Blue Devils, the championship-winning marching art group of the Drum Corps International (DCI), for exchange activities. He became the first Chinese Affairs Advisor to the Blue Devils & System Blue, won four championship rings with the group, and became the first Chinese member to join the DCI board of directors. In 2015, he was elected Executive Director of the AMBC Asian Marching Arts Association, and became Chairman of the same in 2019.

Since the first "National Marching Band Training Course" was held by the Wind Music Association of the China Musicians Association in 2015, he has been repeatedly invited to serve as the main lecturer for several consecutive years. He was also often invited to be the main lecturer for the “Tianjin · Jinbao Blue Devils Marching Art Teaching Certification Training Class”. In 2018, he was elected as Executive Director of Drum Corps Asia (DCA), an alliance initiated and established by marching art bands in China.

As a lecturer of Marching Art Arrangement, he has cultivated numerous outstanding graduates who are active in the field of the marching art education in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenyang, and other places. The orchestras under their direction have achieved excellent results in regional or national competitions.
