Tagkawayan Central Elementary School
TAGKAWAYAN CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Drum and Lyre Corps has a history that traces back to 1966.
It was established with the primary goal of training elementary school students to perform in school activities, festivities, and other significant community events. In those early days, only students from Grades 5 and 6 were allowed to join the group, as the band required a level of maturity and skill that was best suited for older children. However, as time went on, the younger students began to show a keen interest in joining the corps. Recognizing their enthusiasm and potential, the mentors decided to open the group to younger pupils, who soon proved themselves as capable and dedicated members.
The band’s early success was built on the values of discipline, hard work, and teamwork. These traits, instilled by the dedicated mentors, quickly became the foundation for the corps' reputation in local events. As the years went by, the group’s performances garnered admiration and respect, and began joining band competitions. It did not surprise the community when they began reaping awards province-wide and even in regional and national level, because of the unwavering commitment to excellence they have manifested ever since.
The Drum and Lyre Corps is now a symbol of pride for the school and the whole municipality. Their success reflects the rigorous training and the mentorship that had been passed down through the generations. The group’s success is a product of enduring power of hard work, discipline, and pride in one's roots.
Now that the band has qualified to vie in an international band competition, everyone is excited, despite being nervous. It is indeed a rare opportunity to represent Tagkawayan but also the entire Philippines on the global stage. The children and their mentors are exemplars of dedication, passion, and community spirit.
