Chung Ling Butterworth
Chung Ling Butterworth Wind Orchestra was formed in 1992. Our band is under the tutelage of our music director, Maestro Dato’ Woon Wen Kin. Maestro is prolific performer and educator. Besides that, Maestro is an ardent promoter of music and one of the most experienced symphony orchestra conductors in Malaysia. Maestro traced his musical origin to Trinity College of Music in England.
Our band is a concert band consisting of three families which is Brass, Woodwind and Percussion. The main activities of our band include its holding annual concert, performing in school celebrations and activities, taking part in international and local competitions and attending musical workshops. On the international and local competitions, we have been very active at such events as Singapore International Band Festival, The Annual Taiwan Clinic, Nie Er Youth Wind Band Art Week in China, Malaysia International Music Arts Festival and Festival Kesenian Muzik Sekolah - Sekolah Malaysia have been garnering scores of medals - 4 gold with honours, 21 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze.
At our home state of Penang, we have participated in National Day Parade (Penang State Level) and won third place for three times in this event.
Our band has vast varieties of repertoires, covering different styles of music, including classical, popular, jazz, just to name a few. Our band members are expected to have constant rehearsal and scale practice routine in order to master the key points of music performance and to achieve a high level of performance quality. Our motto is “One Band One Sound”.
