About

Sultan Abdul Hamid College Naval Cadet

Kedah, Malaysia

Sultan Abdul Hamid College Band was officially established in 1970. The establishment of the band was recognized thanks to the support of the Menteri Besar of Kedah at the time, Tun Dato' Seri Utama Syed Ahmad bin Syed Mahmud Shahabudin. It started with only 12 Bugles and 15 pairs of stick drums to begin with in 1970, percussion training began by beating the rhythm on desks first while waiting to get the musical instruments. The KSAH marching band has gradually grown to become one of the marching band powerhouses in the state of Kedah with a total of 120 members.

In the 1990s, training was more focused on discipline and Police Band-style marching. The KSAH Band has been involved in National Day Parade performances and various activities and even collaborations with Universiti Utara Malaysia to encourage more students to join the team. Towards the year 2000, the team, led by Mr. Sheridean Zakaria, also a former band member in 1987 upgraded the KSAH Band with the purchase of instruments from Yamaha Music thanks to the contribution of SAHOCA (KL) which was done in stages to convert the KSAH Band from a Military Band to a Marching Band. This brought great achievement to the KSAH Band when they won the Kedah State School Band Competition in 2005 and 2008.
